Better start riding that bike!

Eeek! The count down begins! We are now 22 weeks from the planned date for the bike trip. We have 10 weeks until we should be able to ride our average daily distance at least once a week. Our average daily distance is about 50 kms. Our longest day is approximately 55 kms and our shortest should be just under 40 km. We have five days of riding.

I like the training schedule laid out in BikeTours.com (https://www.biketours.com/training-bike-tour/). I used this to build a weekly training schedule for our Kettle Valley Rail ride. For that ride I cut it pretty close for the training and probably did the bare minimum needed. There were some days of riding that I was pretty stiff and sore. I think this ride will be a bit longer with one section that has much steeper sections. We should probably start training sooner rather than later.

For now I have been going to the gym … very periodically. I will definitely have to up my game and get out on my bike now. I will need to add some days of steep hills to my training to prepare for the connector trail to Sooke. Maybe do some bellyfit or yoga in between too.

We are also going to need to start booking accommodations soon too. I was hoping to stay at small boutique hotels, cabins, BnBs, or glamping grounds but many of them require a minimum of two nights. I will have to do some calling around to see if we can negotiate single night stays. I saw that some places are already booked for the dates of our trip. Maybe Stacey will be sleeping in a tent after all!
